Why I Started Sea Glass & Sage

People often ask me why I started Sea Glass & Sage, and the answer is actually pretty simple: I love seeing things come together.
There's something special about watching months of planning, preparation, and hard work transform into a beautiful experience for someone else. Long before I ever considered starting a business, I found myself helping family and friends with weddings, parties, showers, and special gatherings. I enjoyed being behind the scenes, making sure the details were handled and helping create moments people would remember.
The turning point came when I helped "save" a friend's rehearsal dinner. What could have been a stressful situation became a memorable celebration, and it opened my eyes to something I had never seriously considered before. Instead of only helping family and friends, what if I could help others create meaningful experiences too?
At the time, and still today, I work as a school registrar. While my day job may seem completely different from event planning, it has taught me valuable skills that I use every day in this business: organization, communication, attention to detail, and caring for people.
But my favorite part of any event isn't the planning spreadsheets or the timelines.
It's the quiet moment just before guests arrive.
The tables are set. The florals are in place. The candles are lit. Everything is exactly where it should be.
Before the doors open and the excitement begins, I like to take a moment to look around, reflect on what has come together, and thank Jesus for the opportunity to serve others while doing something I truly love.
That moment never gets old.
The name Sea Glass & Sage comes from two things that have always brought me peace: the beach and the color sage. Both have a calming effect on me and remind me to slow down and appreciate life's simple beauty. I wanted my business to reflect those same feelings, welcoming, intentional, and meaningful.
As an event planner and coordinator, my goal is never to take over someone's vision. Instead, I want to listen. Every client has their own dreams, ideas, and priorities, and I believe my role is to help bring those ideas to life. I offer guidance when needed, but I'm committed to advocating for my clients and helping create an event that reflects them—not the opinions of everyone around them.
While I enjoy all types of events, weddings and luxury picnics hold a special place in my heart. There is something incredibly rewarding about helping couples celebrate their love story. How amazing would it be to help plan an engagement picnic and then continue walking alongside that couple as they plan their wedding day?
Of course, starting a business comes with fears too.
If I'm being honest, there are moments when I wonder if this dream will grow the way I hope it will. Building a business takes courage, faith, and a willingness to step into the unknown. I started Sea Glass & Sage because I wanted to do something I love while also helping provide for my family, and like any business owner, I hope those efforts continue to grow.
Five years from now, I hope Sea Glass & Sage is a trusted name in the wedding and event community. I hope venues and vendors feel confident recommending me to their clients. Most importantly, I hope I have helped create countless memories for the people who trusted me with their special moments.
And if along the way I can create a little more freedom to spend time with my family and take a few extra vacations together, that would be a blessing too.
Thank you for being part of this journey.
I'm so glad you're here.
